The PetroDAQ Slim Secure Rig Server is a high performance system for digital data aggregation and network security.

The Secure Rig Server is designed for deployment in standard 19" computer racks, using only 1U of height and 17" of depth. The small form factor does not compromise the functionality provided in the system. Slim Secure Rig Servers support a full range of options including:

  • You choice for network security, including Cisco 892 router, Cisco ISA 570 and 570W, Cisco ASA-5505, Mikrotik routers, and/or Ethernet switches
  • High performance entry level system with i7-3610QE processor with 8GB RAM standard, 16GB optional Solid State drives
  • Network KVM for remote access and control at the hardware level
  • Power control unit, for remote on/off control
  • Video repeaters
  • Built-in battery backup
  • Built-in touchscreen
  • Field aggregation kit

The Slim Secure Rig Server can is built by default using aluminum enclosures. When a higher level of durability is required, the enclosures are built in stainless steel 304.

The Slim Secure Rig Server I/O was designed to provide extensive connectivity options, enabling aggregation of all the information being collected at the rig site and its transmission to the office environment.

  • 4 x Ethernet LAN Ports
  • 1 x Ethernet WAN Port
  • 2 x Serial ports
  • 1 x Video VGA output
  • 2 x USB Ports

Optional ports include

  • Up to 8 serial ports
  • Audio output for alarms
  • Up to 8 USB ports
  • 1 x Local video HDMI port
  • Up to 4 VGA video over Ethernet extenders

It is recommended that USB ports are not included in configurations where high levels of security are required.

Secure Networking

The built-in Cisco firewalls support network segmentation and VPNs. This allows the separation and isolation of each of the contractor's networks from the main network. In addition, all the traffic from the Slim Secure Rig Server to the corporate network is done with a VPN.

Connectivity to contractors

The built-in Ethernet and serial ports provide the connectivity to allow the collection of WITS, WITSML, ModBus, and other formats supported by the PetroDAS software.

In order to keep communications secure, each of the contractor network ports is isolated from the others. To increase the separation from the contractor's network to the office network, we recommend that a network is physically not present. Instead of connecting the TCP ports, all initial traffic is done with serial ports. With the use of our serial to Ethernet converters, the data is then transmitted to the Secure Rig Server.

Remote Power Off

The unit supports three methods for remote power off:

  • At the OS level, a remote power off software is installed. When invoked from the central control, the system performs an orderly shutdown.
  • At the BIOS level, the computer is remotely accessible with a network KVM
  • For immediate emergency power-off, an optional power supply control unit can be enabled with a remote network switch. This will immediately cut power to the unit.

It is recommended that a separate network segment is allocated for the remote control, remote KVM, and remote power off, isolating it from network misconfiguration and cyber-attacks happening in the main network.

Software Options

PetroDAQ Rig Servers are compatible with Windows and Linux distributions and can run the full suite of PetroDAQ Software.

Optional expansion for sensor data collection

The functionality of the Secure Rig Servers can be expanded to include the collection of data from sensors at high data rates.

The connection is done with the DrillDAQ Smart Junction Boxes.

PetroDAQ hardware solutions are available for rental, leasing, and sale. PetroDAQ Hardware is available bundled as part of our Industry Specific Solutions, or as standalone products.
