Universal Data Acquisition

As the safety and operational efficiency requirements continue to increase in oil and gas drilling operations, a higher degree of real-time monitoring of all aspects of the operation is necessary.

PetroDAQ provides advanced technology for the monitoring of drilling operations in real-time including mudlogging, drilling engineering, geological and geosteering information. These solutions are built with our hardware and software by our technical support personnel for a flexible and customizable solution that will meet your specific needs.

Monitoring is not restricted to the traditional drilling parameters but can be extended to all the equipment on the rig including the performance of generators, pumps and top drives.

The platform is extensible and can be used to monitor a single operation or a full fleet of rigs.

PetroDAQ real-time technology implements data exchange standards widely used in the drilling and industrial automation industries, such as OPC, Modbus, WITS and WITSML. This multi-protocol approach provides a flexible platform for the integration of all the measurements and information generated at the rig.

The real-time monitoring process

The process for effective real-time monitoring of a drilling operation includes four main steps: data collection, local monitoring at the rig, transmission to a central location and remote monitoring.

The information is collected from the rig instrumentation panels, PLC and digital feeds. This information is aggregated to the surface and down-hole data is provided by the mudlogging, MWD/LWD and other service companies.

Local displays and alarms are provided on the rig floor and to the company man, tool-pusher and service company cabins. The displays are configurable to meet the needs of each activity.

The information is transmitted to off-site servers using the existing network communications on the rig and the data is stored in central servers at the customer premises or on cloud-based servers hosted by PetroDAQ. The information in these off-site servers is made available to 3rd party applications using the WITSML Standard.

Personnel at the corporate real-time operations centers as well as mobile users can access the data from the servers using our web viewer technology which provides monitoring and alarm functionality for mudlogging, drilling engineering, MWD/LWD and geosteering.
