Secure Rig Server

The PetroDAQ Secure Rig Server is a powerful, compact and lightweight rig aggregation solution that combines a powerful processing unit with a secure Cisco router, and remote control capabilities.

The PetroDAQ Secure Rig Server provides all the hardware necessary to run complex modeling applications and data aggregation operations at the rig site.

The general characteristics of the Secure Rig Server include :

• Small form factor: 13" (W), 13" (D), 5" (H)
• Strong and light weight construction in aluminum (stainless steel option is available)
• High performance industrial computer, up to 70C operational temperature with i7 processor
• Integrated KVM for remote control at the BIOS level
• Industrial Power Supply with large voltage (80 - 240VAC) and frequency range (47 - 63 Hz) with extended temperature support up to 158°F (70°C)
• Integrated Cisco ASA-5505 or ISA-550 firewall allowing secure VPNs from the rig to the office
• Storage in Solid State HD for increased performance and reliability
• High cooling with quadruple redundant fans
• 3 Deployment options with the supplied kits: desktop, rack mounted, and under-desk
• Shipped with a rugged transport case and all accessories in a single and small form factor (20" x 15" x 9")

The Secure Rig Server was designed for portability in high-performance applications. When permanent installs are required, the Slim Secure Rig Server provides a 1U rack-mounted form factor with a similar level of functionality.

The digital I/O is designed for the collection of rig data and sending it to the office network via secure links. The standard connectors include:

• 4 x Ethernet VPN LAN ports
• 1 x Ethernet WAN port
• 2 x Serial ports
• 2 x USB ports

Optional ports include :

• Up to 8 serial ports
• Audio Output for alarms
• Up to 8 USB ports

It is recommended that USB ports are not included in configurations where high levels of security are required.

The built-in Cisco ASA-5505 or ISA-550 firewalls support network segmentation and VPNs. This allows the separation and isolation of each of the contractor's networks from the main network. In addition, all the traffic from the Secure Rig Server to the office network is done with a VPN.

With this configuration, all network ports can be closed, creating an effective barrier against computer hackers, viruses and other security threats.

Connectivity to contractors

The built-in Ethernet and serial ports provide the connectivity to allow the collection of WITS, WITSML, ModBus and other proprietary formats.

Each of the contractor network ports is isolated from the others.

To increase the separation from the contractor's network to the office network, we recommend that a network is physically not present. Instead of connecting the TCP ports, all initial traffic is done with serial ports. With the use of our serial to Ethernet converters, the data is then transmitted to the Secure Rig Server.

Remote Power Off

The unit supports three methods for remote power off.

• At the OS level, a remote power off software is installed. When invoked from the central control, the system performs an orderly shutdown.
• At the BIOS level, the computer is remotely accessible with a network KVM.
• For immediate emergency power-off, an optional power supply control unit can be enabled with a remote network switch. This will immediately cut power to the unit.

It is recommended that a separate network segment is allocated for the remote control, remote KVM, and remote power off, isolating it from network misconfiguration and cyber-attacks happening in the main network.

Software Options

PetroDAQ Secure Rig Servers are compatible with Windows and Linux distributions and can run the full suite of PetroDAQ Software.

Optional expansion for sensor data collection

The functionality of the Secure Rig Servers can be expanded to include the collection of data from sensors, at high data rates.

The connection is done with the DrillDAQ Smart Junction Boxes.
